Options vs Value Adds
Thanks to the extreme kindness of Simon, I now find myself the recipient of a (spare) Cambridge Audio external DAC.
Only I've found that my 1994 vintage CD player doesn't have a coax digital out on the back. (The 1986 vintage one it replaced did have - go figure.)
So I'm looking online to find out how much it would cost to get a replacement with SP/DIF out...and although you can get optical out for around 70 quid, it's around 150 before you get the socketry I'm after.
Or I can buy a DVD player with it for around 30.
How strange that something essential on one commodity - because even a shitty DVD player might be connected to a shitty surround system - would be an extreme high-end value add on another...

Going with the flow
So once again I've had the email from pair.com, saying that due to excessive server load, they've had to turn off mt-tb.cgi, the bit of perl in movabletype that deals with trackbacks. The spam level had got to the point where it was hobbling the server.
And, you know, I don't think I'll be turning it back on again.
Stuff it.
So I'll clean up the >3K bits of spam to date, and then just concentrate on blogging rather than continually cleaning out this sodding database. Perhaps if you write something nice about something I've said - now I have the time to say it - you'd drop me an email. Like in the olden days.
(I once heard a spurious theory that the dinosaurs died out because they just couldn't be arsed any more. I know how they feel.)

Goodbye to My Past
If it wasn't enough that I'm having to pack down the studio shortly, to make way for sprog no 2, my student radio past is disappearing too...

The Downside to Progress
I finally found something I couldn't do on the First Direct website. So I had to ring them instead.
And for the first time in nine years I had music and 'all of our operators are busy'.
It was quite a shock! Must ring them more often...
(Apparently it's a very busy day though)

Today, Sainsburys Suggests...
(Always fascinated to see what their software suggests at the end of each order process. Perhaps it will give you an insight I can't see.)
The King Kong DVD, a bottle of Baileys, and a litre of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Apropos of nothing....
Oh look, my CV has been updated.
Oh, and my linked in profile too - perhaps some kind people might feel like giving me an endorsement?
